We are about to start on a new adventure, “Down Under” and in New Zealand.
The first leg of the trip starts with three days in Sydney. Then we will get on the Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas for a 16 night sailing from Sydney to Fremantle (Perth). (Photo from Royal Caribbean website)
Then we fly to Alice Springs and take a day trip to Ayers rock
Next, we board the Celebrity Solstice from Perth to New Zealand and back to Sydney.
Here are some facts we learned while planning:
- Sydney is 17 hours ahead of us in Middle Tennessee, so when our family is sitting down to dinner, we are having lunch the next day! The time zones will change as we travel around the continent and NZ, so we need to give or take +/-3 hours depending on where we are at the time.
- Our winter is their summer. While it is hovering around 30 degrees F here, it has been as high as 117 F in Sydney. On the day we plan to leave, the forecast is mid 80’s for the high. I look forward to missing the rest of winter in Tennessee and getting some warmth there.
- The Tasmanian Devil is not a fictional character for Loony Tunes. We hope to see one while we are there – but preferably in a zoo.
