Boston

Anniversary Trip to Boston

The Westin, Copley Place was a perfect location for us as it is convenient to the Old Town Trolley Tour Hop-on-Hop-off bus, the subway, and local restaurants.

For our fortieth anniversary, we splurged on a beautiful corner suite on an upper floor with amazing views of the Charles River and the city.

Views:

We even had a brief view of the window washer.  I would not want HIS view!

The manager sent us a nice note and some treats for our anniversary.

After check-in, we explored the Boston Public Library.

Very impressive architecture and artwork

If I lived within walking distance of the library, I would grab a coffee and pastry in the library cafe’, which was reasonably priced, by the way, and spend some time in this courtyard. Many people were sitting at little tables for two with the same idea. It is nice and quiet and wifi is available.

Remember the courtyard above?  This is our view of the same courtyard from our room at the Westin.

In the evening, we enjoyed an anniversary dinner at the Capital Grill.  Yes, I know we could eat at the Capital Grill in Nashville, but we never have. They made our 40th anniversary special.

Day 2

We took the Old Time Trolley Tour. The closest trolley stop is close to where I am standing when I took this photo of our hotel.

I have a Passport to National Parks, and Boston is a great city to collect some cancellation stamps.

Hopped off at the USS Constitution.  FYI: There is security screening here. We had to show photo ID and have bags scanned. This vessel is fully operational, and naval personnel are onsite to give commentary.

We saved most of the freedom trail for tomorrow, only stopping at Paul Revere’s house and North church today. (Paul Revere’s House offered a 2 for one discount by showing the HOHO ticket.) Lunch was at Joe’s American Grill and Pub for a delicious hamburger and fish sandwich.  Dinner was at the Friendly Toast.  Hubby had Clam Chowder and I had scrambled eggs  and delicious cheese grits.  They make their own bread/toast there, thickly sliced and yummy.  I forgot to take pictures at either place, but I recommend both restaurants..

Day 3

We took the MBTA subway to the aquarium stop for Faneuil Hall and walked along the Freedom Trail from there by following a marked brick pathway.

The HoHo trolley tour includes admission to the Old State House Museum. -We just showed our receipt from the day before.

We toured the grounds at Old City Hall and a couple of cemeteries.

We also spent some time at the Boston Public Gardens where hubby treated me a ride on the Swan Boats since our Tall Ship Harbor Tour was cancelled due to a private charter. The Swan Boats are pedal-powered. This seems like an excellent summer job for individuals working on their calf muscles! The little lake was tranquil, and we saw some ducks and turtles enjoying the sunshine.

The Make Way for Ducklings Statue in the Public Gardens is popular with children (and children at heart).  These little ducks were wearing bandana scarves on this day. I understand that they are dressed throughout the year for many occasions and holidays, and I understand they are proud supporters of a certain Boston baseball team!

Dinner was at the Atlantic Fish Company steps from where the Boston Marathon Bombing occurred in 2013.

They also added a little extra gift for our anniversary.

The subway entrance was very convenient to our hotel, and we rode it to attend the  Boston Symphony for West Side Story.

The fortieth anniversary has come and gone, but we had a “splendorific” time in Boston. I wonder what year 41 will bring!
