Also known as Los Cabos, this port offers the iconic photo of the arches in the water. Cruise ships sail by this picturesque place, and smaller ship tours are available to get up close. As of 2017, there are travel advisories warning Americans of gang and drug related violence in the area. That is such a shame. It is a beautiful place and their honest economy relies on tourism. I really hope the Mexican government can get these issues under control so that people will feel safer traveling to the area again,
In 2010, I visited this same port where whale watching was on the agenda.
We had a great experience doing a cruise ship’s excursion on a magnificent, smooth ship with sails. (Yes my hair was much shorter and darker then. I also look younger. Well, I was younger then.)
Others took little zodiac boats and bobbed around in the water. They were much closer to the whales, but I felt we still got an excellent view and I didn’t lose my lunch, either.
This time, in 2015, we decided to just walk around on our own and explore the marina area at the cruise port.
We were near the end of our 31-day cruise around South America, and it had been several days since we connected with our real world lives, so we found a restaurant and enjoyed nachos and quesadillas while checking emails, etc.
The restaurant had counter service facing the marina, so we enjoyed people-watching and marveling at some of the yachts nearby. I highly recommend the food and location. We could have easily shared a meal.
Multiple souvenir shops are in the area, so I made my postcard and ornament purchase, and we headed back to the ship full and content on authentic Mexican food.
If I ever return to Cabo San Lucas…
I think I would like to purchase a pass for resort for a day. I hear the beaches are beautiful, and the secured private resorts are a great way to enjoy them.
