Celebrity Infinity

The Infinity is in the Millennium Series and is a sister ship to the Millennium, the Summit, and the Constellation. With an occupancy of 2170 guests, she entered service in 2001 and is scheduled for modernization in 2020. In this photo, you can see she is docked in Miami on a day where the skies were getting ready to pour! But that didn’t dampen my joy of sailing on her.  We sailed in February on a 5 day Caribbean itinerary.

Upon embarkation, guests are invited to go to the Oceanview Cafe’ to enjoy a lunch buffet. – I may have been one of the last cruisers to get to enjoy the buffet as it used to be before the Pandemic of 2020.

Notice self-service hand sanitizing stations at the entrance.  There were stationed here directing people to use them. Many times staff members were also holding portable hand sanitizer applicators and squirting it into hands. This has always been a safety measure on cruise ships. Right now there are already new health and safety protocols being developed due to Covid-19, but Celebrity has always been conscious of the health of her guests.

Many cruise lines are trying to determine how the buffets will evolve after the pandemic of 2020 concludes and cruising resumes.  Celebrity and others may have to adopt a more-server utilized policy where guests indicate the items they want and a server puts them on a plate .  It will probably make buffet service a little slower, but that is much more preferable to the free-for-all system with a few sloppy people grazing as they go and touching all the serving utensils.  (By the way – I always sanitized my hands before and AFTER serving my plate. I have been doing that for years, because some people, “bless their hearts,” have some nasty habits.)

Celebrity did a great job with their buffet.  Food was kept hot and replenished regularly.  They already had several stations in the buffet area that used servers.  There was an omelet station available every morning during breakfast hours and a sandwich area at lunch.  During a special dessert extravaganza, the desserts were on display, but dining staff cut and served the desserts of your choice.

Enjoy several pictures below of the buffet area in late Feb. 2020:

This is a personal favorite station of mine: The ice cream station with several flavors of ice cream.  The coconut, orange cream, and the chocolate were three of my favorites.  Some flavors were available every day, and some were special flavors available one day.  Cookies were served here, too.

The Dessert Extravaganza – Fortunately, servers cut and served from these beautiful desserts.  I just pointed to the one I wanted and they happily added it to my dessert plate.

The buffet is on the same deck as the pool, so one can find additional space for seating outside near the pool when the weather is nice. There are also some healthy options at the spa cafe’.

The Rendezvous is an area just outside the dining room.  Live piano music was played here and several guests enjoyed listening to music before and after dinner.

The chairs were re-configured regularly depending on the activity scheduled here.

Celebrity offered three dining seating options.  Early Dining and Late Dining are fixed dining times where guests always eat at the same time and with set dining partners in tables that accommodate anywhere from 2-10 guests. Celebrity Select is a dining option where guests may choose to go to the dining room at the time of their choice and enjoy dining with a variety of others OR can request a table for just themselves.  If choosing Celebrity Select, it is possible to make a reservation for the time of your choice.

The main dining room is called the Trellis Restaurant and it is located on decks 4 and 5 of the ship.

There are specialty restaurants onboard.  Sushi on 5 is an al-a-carte option.

Q-sine offers a delightful culinary experience: La petite Chef.  This was a delightful dinner.  There is a cover charge, but it is well worth it.  A clever video projection system transforms dinner into a show.  The lights in the restaurant dim and a tiny “chef” appears before each course to “prepare” the meal.  Once the chef is finished, they bring up the lights and waiters serve the real food which is the item that the chef prepared (Unless you ordered the alternate choice for each course.) In this episode, the petite chef just hoisted a huge hunk of steak onto the grill and doused it with is tiny gas can. He lights the grill and cooks the steak.  I won’t spoil the fun for you by posting additional scenes.  You will just have to book this meal and find out yourself.

Eating is definitely a highlight of cruising, and you would think that all we do is eat on a cruise, but that is only a small part of the experience on the Infinity.

There is a spa and fitness center with nice complimentary exercise equipment. Some fitness classes come with a fee. There is an indoor pool.

And an outdoor pool.

Life vests were provided for the kids. Although since we were sailing on weekdays in February, we didn’t see many children.

On deck 12 aft, there is the Rooftop terrace.

Here, you can find the sports court and an outdoor theater.

I love an outdoor movie, but I hope when they refurbish the ship, they do something about the seating here.  The little cabanas provide some shade, but it can be terribly hot and sunny so NO ONE sat in the open seating area during the heat of the day.  And the nice loungers with shade look very inviting, but the seating is not comfortable at all.  We actually removed the cushions from the unused sofas and piled them on the lounger.  Perhaps in the evening this space is better utilized.  We also found the sound hard to hear, so I was thankful for the closed-captioning.

On to other great areas: The observation lounge has lots of seating and floor- to-ceiling windows.  There are several times during the day that the activity staff has something planned for this space, but there are other times that a peaceful respite can be enjoyed here while facing the view in climate-controlled comfort.

Facing the interior of the observation lounge:

Of course, some duty-free shopping is available.

There are art talks and art auctions from Park West Gallery

In the business center, I attended a couple of free “Iphone Tricks” classes here. Celebrity is an authorized dealer for Apple products.  I learned so much from the free class that I signed up for another one with a small fee.  I use some of the tricks I learned daily.

Another calm spot is the library.  The chairs are comfy and people seemed to respect the fact that it should remain a peaceful place.

Celebrity has a kids club with programs and activities planned especially for the kids.

Once debarkation begins, if I have a late debarkation time, I walk around to take some photos of the different stateroom types and ask the cabin stewards if I can take a picture of some of the rooms.  Once they have new health and safety guidelines, I may not longer be allowed to do this.

This is a typical interior cabin.  A full mirror lines the back wall. This one has a twin-size pullout in the oversized chair.  Two twins can be configured together or apart.

An Oceanview room.  Notice the two beds are configured as a queen. Other than the window, the configuration is the same as an interior only this one is mirror image to the interior above.

The following photos are from a sky suite (room 6129). Remember, the Infinity is due for a refurbishment soon, so they may look different when you sail.

What did I like most about the Celebrity Infinity?  They had a diligence about cleanliness, and I never felt really crowded. Overall it was a great 5 days, and I look forward to sailing on Celebrity again.

Covid, Covid, go away….. I really want to sail today!
