We arrived at the Dead Sea in the evening just before dark, but I managed to get a couple of photos from the motor coach window.
We stayed at the Daniel Hotel. As you can see from this view of mine while standing in the hotel lobby, it is a short walk from the hotel to the beach. But it was getting dark and the temperature had dropped enough that I didn’t really want to get in the water, so I opted for a float in the hotel’s indoor pool which is filled with heated Dead Sea water. What a great idea!
I donned the hotel bathrobe, and headed down to the pool.
Outside the spa area, there is a bath towel vending machine. This was a first for me. I scanned my room key card and a towel popped out.
I always had a misconception about the water in the Dead Sea. I knew that it had a high salt content, and I had a mental image of thick, gritty water, but it was nothing like I imagined. The water was translucent and pretty and left a slightly oily feeling on the skin. I walked down into the water and leaned back like I do in my living room recliner, and whoosh, my legs flew right up! Then I just floated around for a little while. I showered the Dead Sea off of me and went back to the towel dispenser to return my towel and get another one – for a REAL shower in the room. That way I would still have my room towel for the next morning.
On Sunday, I awoke early to catch the sunrise. Walking along the beach was peaceful. Very few people were anywhere to be seen. (And that’s fine with me!)
I enjoyed a good half-hour of early morning peace and reflection before the sun finally worked its way over the distant mountains. There is definitely a reward for waking early at the Dead Sea.
