Picturesque orange rooftops grace every tourist’s photo. It is even more impressive in person than in pictures.
Carnival provided a motor coach shuttle into Old Town for $13 per person roundtrip. We noticed that taxis charged 13 Euro per taxi one way. Since we didn’t have someone to share a taxi with, we opted for the ship’s shuttle.
This was a better value in the long run for us since we were paying in US dollars. And it was more convenient because the shuttle fare was added to our onboard account. We noticed signs posted for a one-hour city tour by taxi for 50 Euro, but we chose to explore on our own.
The old city is crowded with tourists.
The stone pedestrian streets can be a little slippery.
Admission is charged to climb to the top of the city wall – payable either by local currency or by credit card. I guess I will find out how much it costs once I get my credit card bill! The shops accepted Euros.
Views from the old city are breathtaking. I believe it was built in the 9th or 10th century. I am sure we ascended/descended 300-400 well-worn stairs….
….but we took a leisurely pace, and it was worth the climb.
Smart business owners have restaurants and shops along the top of the wall, and .50 Euro allowed access to a toilet. (Bring your own toilet paper or tissues.)
After the wall, we went to the old city harbor and caught a 50 minute glass-bottom boat tour.
Views from the water included the old city walls, resorts, and nature.
Our tiny boat sailed near an impressive yacht with its own helicopter.
We did a little shopping and took a break at a small cafe that offered wifi so we could catch up on news back home.
As we sailed away, we got great photos of this bridge. It was a great day in Dubrovnik.
