Fall Creek Falls State Park, TN

We did a quick, overnight trip to Fall Creek Falls State Park in November 2022.

The drive there is absolutely gorgeous, but if you are prone to motion sickness, be sure to take something before you go. On the way there, we encountered every different kind of curving road sign made.

Since we were going to arrive before check-in time, we drove over to the town of Pikeville for lunch, (which was actually more curvy than going straight to LBL park) and our GPS took us on a picturesque, narrow-lane shortcut at one point. I bet the fall leaves would have been gorgeous!

Stopped at Wooden’s Apple House.

This is a family-owned apple orchard and has a family-run cafe’ with your basic meat and veggie offerings, plus a menu of salads and various mac-n-cheese combinations.

It is NOT the Apple Barn at Pigeon Forge, TN, but it is cute, and I appreciate that this is a local, family business. They do not accept credit cards, but they have an ATM available if needed. They offer country cooking.

They also have a bakery section with fried pies, apple fritters and whole pies.

And shopping

Wooden is the last name. As far as I know, they do not sell wooden apples.

The lodge at the park is newly remodeled.

There is a paved, easy walking trail around the lake, and our room (301) offered a beautiful view – especially at sunset. It would also be a great room if you were here in the summer with older children as you could sit on the balcony and easily supervise the swimming pool below.

We are not avid campers or hikers, but this park has lots of camp sites and cabin rentals, too, and multiple trails. We did hike to a couple of different falls. Our weather has been incredibly dry, so the water is not as abundant as in other years. You have to look closely to realize the falls are here.

We also took the trails to Piney Falls and to the suspension bridge – although I am not a fan of suspension bridges if ANYone else is on it with me. I always get on with a knucklehead who wants to bounce. A photo was good enough for me.

There are several scenic overlooks and dangerous drop-offs along the way. If you are traveling with children or clumsy people, beware. One misstep and it is a LONG way down!

I enjoyed my stay at the Lodge. For a review of the room, check out my YouTube video here.
