Haifa

We only spent a few hours in Haifa. Our first stop was at the Baha’i Gardens. I don’t really know much about the Baha’i faith, but I was certainly impressed by their gardens with a view of the city and the Mediterranean.

While in Haifa, we briefly visited the Stella Maris Monastery. This building is built above a cave which is the traditional site of the hiding place of Elijah, and the cave is visible from the sanctuary.  Look closely where the floor seems to end.  This is the entrance to the cave.  Our guide explained that many churches in the area have a “Cave of Elijah.”  The Bible records that Elijah hid in a cave as did other prophets of God, so perhaps one of these caves is the,  “one.”

They have a statue of Elijah in the cave.

On to Kalamaris for lunch.

The stairway down to the entrance afforded another view of the city.

As usual, we had pita bread with hummus, fresh olives, and various spreads and fillings.  We were given three choices for our main entrée:  Chicken,

Kebabs,

or fish.  I chose the fish. The little package on my plate is a lemon – ready to squeeze without dropping little seeds onto the tasty fish.

This was Valentine’s Day, and here is my date:

Actually, I had a double-date.

We left Haifa to travel to Megiddo  (Click on the name, Megiddo, in blue to go to that post)
