The Israel museum houses a scale model of Jerusalem during the second temple period. This outdoor model gave me a greater understanding of the location of the temple during that time period and its scale as compared to the other city buildings. As we walked around this model, our guide pointed out the locations of the various city gates and landmarks.
Next, we went to the Shrine of the Book. This building is shaped like the top of a jar – the type of jar that protected the Dead Sea Scrolls when they were found at Qumran. The building houses some of those ancient manuscripts.
No photos are allowed at the shrine of the book without special permission, but Brad Harrub, who teaches seminars regarding Christian Evidences, gained permission to take these photos and he allowed me to share them on my blog.
A facsimile of the book of Isaiah is on display within a scroll shaped case.
We only had about 20 minutes to explore the rest of the museum. I could have spent hours inside, but I was glad we focused on these two main exhibits.
Tonight we go back to our hotel a little early to rest and have dinner, OR for those who don’t have time to rest, go exploring in the Old City which is within walking distance of our hotel. Watch for my post about that coming soon.
