Labadee, Haiti

Royal Caribbean’s private beach destination in Haiti.

We visited Labadee, Haiti, while on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas October 2, 2022.

It is quite a trek from the ship’s dock to the entrance, but there is a shuttle that takes passengers to the various areas once you arrive.

We were welcomed by a sign, music, local dancers, and people handing out maps of the area.

As you can see from the map below, this is a really large complex and it is spread out.

At town square, there is shopping. Locals sell their wares at various booths. We found that the shopping at the building was pretty laid back. Vendors did not hassle guests too much for sales here like they will in other areas.

You may choose to be dropped off at Town Square for indoor shipping and then walk toward Columbus Cove but beware, the local vendors whose shops are located all along the road are relentless.

These vendors WILL hassle you. They are not allowed to leave their area to go into the beach cove areas to peddle their wares, but if you walk into their area, they will become your new best friends.

There are private areas (bungalows, canopies, beach clubs) for an additional cost, but there are plenty of complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas throughout Labadee.

We took the shuttle all the way to Columbus Cove and found a couple of chairs with an umbrella under a tree near the aqua park. No charge for the chairs and umbrellas. They were complimentary, first-come/first-served. There was a pretty quiet cove for swimming/floating, And it was fun to watch people at the aqua park.

Columbus Cove was also the area where people would begin excursions for canoeing, etc. And the entrance to the water slide (for an additional fee) is here.

Smoking is not allowed in most places, but there are several smoking areas throughout the complex.

If you purchase a “Beach lounger for two,” there is a special area where these loungers are located. I didn’t see a need for this since there were plenty of complimentary chairs and umbrellas to be had.

There is a long zip line available for an extra fee, and there is an alpine coaster which is a more reasonable fee. The alpine coaster is made up of individual cars, and they are equipped with a hand brake, so riders can choose to have an adrenaline rush or a calm ride.

Beach games like table tennis and corn hole, giant connect 4, bocce ball, etc.

Food is brought over from the ship and served complimentary on the island: hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, salads, desserts, etc. There are self-serve water and tea stations.

There was at least one area where swimming was not allowed, but this provided a nice, quiet atmosphere for folks who just want to relax. Beach chairs and beach beds were set up there.

I really did not expect much from the port at Labadee, Haiti, but I was overwhelmingly surprised. I rank this right up there with Perfect Day at Coco Cay. It was clean and spacious, and I hope it is on my itinerary again sometime.
