We chose Princess’ excursion: “6.5 hour Ranch Experience with lunch and city tour.” The city tour primarily consisted of some commentary as we viewed sites from the motorcoach. We made one stop in Independence Plaza for a photo op.
We were met by the family who owns La Rabida.
After enjoying the grounds for a few minutes,
we were transported by a variety of vintage cars and horse-drawn carts and wagons to their beach.
All enjoyed a refreshing juice drink
and “biscuits” (cookies)
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, (literally) our food was being prepared. Meats were smoked over the fire.
Sweet potatoes and other vegetables were baked in a wood burning oven.
We enjoyed appetizers of sausage, mixed vegetables and bread.
Then we served ourselves from the meats and the salad/sides bar.
After lunch, gauchos entertained the crowd. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have my picture made with these nice looking young men.
We were given opportunities to milk cows and ride the horses.
I also took a ride on a piece of cow hide drug behind a horse. When he started galloping, I promptly fell over. This was a bumpy thrill.
If I ever get the chance to go back to Montevideo, I would love to revisit this ranch. The entire experience was well-worth the cost of the excursion.
Next stop: Pureto Madryn, Argentina
