What a busy day. We had an early start to see Montserrat, so we arrived back in Barcelona in time for lunch. Luzzio is a restaurant next to our hotel with wood-fire grilled pizza that lured us right in.
We enjoyed our Gaudi walking tour so much that we booked a second walking tour focusing on the Old City from the same placa as before. We were guided through several narrow pedestrian streets. Continue reading “Barcelona Day 3B – Old Town”
To beat the crowds, we booked an early access tour to Montserrat, a Catholic monastery set high atop a mountain outside of Barcelona. Picture hundreds of stone pillars of similar but differing sizes lined up next to each other. Stone was brought down from this area to build the cathedrals of the city.
Atop this mountain sits an amazing cathedral, monastery, and school.

Today we slept in until 9:00 AM then left to find our guide for a Runner Bean Free Walking Tour focusing on the works of the architect/artist Gaudi. We walked down La Rambla, past the Licea metro stop and found the Placa Reial (Plaza with a fountain) off to the left from La Rambla.
We left early enough to have a seat at the cafe’, enjoy a chocolate pastry, and watch for a guide in a bright green shirt. People reserve this tour in advance, and it is a good thing. Making reservations ensured our spot on the tour and gave us valuable info like what time we would finish.
