Brilliance of the Seas – Royal Caribbean

While the Carnival Vista screams, “Fun,”  the dark wood, glass and chrome accents of the Royal Caribbean Brilliance of the Seas calmly says, “Relax and enjoy.”  It is a smaller ship than the Vista we just left, and I am ready to be more centrally located on a quiet balcony.  We are in cabin 9064. Our balcony is mostly covered from the sun, so we should only get early morning or late afternoon sun depending on our direction.

Sometimes, announcements can be quite cumbersome when sailing in the Mediterranean.  They typically make long announcements in multiple languages. Since we sailed out of Barcelona, all announcements at the shows were made in Spanish and English.  Jerome, the cruise director, was phenomenal.  He speaks both languages fluently and translates very short phrases very quickly – bouncing back and forth between English and Spanish so no one is impatient waiting for him to finish a long announcement in multiple languages.

What I really liked about this ship:

Classical violin music in the lobby and other areas of the ship.

Some chairs on the Promenade deck for folks without balconies to sit in the shade.

Theater style seating in the theater.

A game room with a selection of games and several tables. There is a round one and two more square ones on the opposite side of the room.

The dining room had some available tables for two by the window.

A dedicated dining room for the Chef’s Table Experience

Very nice public restrooms.

The daily info newsletter called the Cruise Compass.

Touch screen information kiosks around the ship

Days of the week in the elevator floor so I can keep up with what day it is

Solarium and indoor pool area reserved for guests ages 16 and up. This area has a small complimentary cafe, fresh fruit, and a beverage station for tea, coffee and water.

Rock climbing wall

water slide

mini golf

basketball court

fitness center and spa

The Colony Club. It is open to all unless there is an invitation-only event booked there.)It has a pool table which supposedly adjusts for ship movement?  I never did stop to play.

The colony club also had many chairs for small group socializing, trivia, bingo, and smaller stage shows, and….Seating by windows for climate controlled scenic views.

Other things I really like but did not take pictures of: Salad bar in the main dining room for lunch on sea days.,Interesting port lectures.  (Not just a sales pitch for the shore excursion department), and a variety of bread choices at dinner.

The Brilliance has multiple specialty dining venues. I did not eat in any of them this time, but when I have, I have always been impressed. Some are al a carte, and others have a per-person cover charge. I have included the menus that were current as of 2016. Photos were taking from the info on the kiosk.

We are booked for 2018 on her sister ship, the Radiance of the Seas. Be watching for my review.  I’m really looking forward to seeing how she compares.  Will there be any noticeable differences?  I guess we will see soon.
