La Serena is the closest city to the cruise port at Coquimbo. The excursion we booked included both cities. First, we drove to the university set on a hill.

We arrived in port in the morning, and before I was fully awake, I heard music. This was unique. Sometimes from late morning to evening we would faintly hear music from the Lido deck while sitting on our balcony, but this sounded like a Mariachi band was standing right on our balcony. The port of Valpraiso is 2.5 hours away from Santiago, Chile. Since we didn’t know if we would ever be back to Chili, a visit to the capital city seemed important. There is an interesting blend of Colonial and modern architecture in Santiago. Continue reading “Valpraiso, Chile”
